Carers week is taking place between Monday 8 – Sunday 14 June 2026. The theme for 2026 is Building Carer Friendly Communities. Carers Week is a yearly campaign that acknowledges the challenges faced by carers and highlights the contribution that unpaid carers make to their family and friends.
Anyone who looks after a family member or friend who has a mental or physical illness, a disability, an addiction, or requires additional support as they age, is a carer. One of the aims of Carers Week is to help people realize if they are an unpaid carer, signpost what help might be available for them, and encourage them to reach out for help when they need it.
Many carers are responsible for providing care for adults at an increased risk of abuse, neglect, or even exploitation. Supporting carers is essential for safeguarding adults as carers will be able to report if they suspect abuse or neglect.
